Newsletter – September 24

Hello OLR families,

We are well into the school year, and it’s hard to believe that it is already the last week of September.  There has been quite a run of students that have already been out sick, so we’d like to remind all parents that if their child is sick with a fever, they must be 24 hours fever free before returning to school.  If your child has been to the doctor and has been diagnosed with strep, please notify us so that we can warn the class to be on the look out. If your child is sick, or for any other reason they will not be in school, please let the school know in the morning either by phone or email.

For new parents, and some that have been here for a while, there is a calendar on our website homepage at www.olr-school.net.  It has the week listed, but you can click onto the entire year’s calendar.  If plans change in the middle of the month, they should be updated on this calendar.

Some activities at OLR in the coming weeks:

Friday, September 28th, is the first Mission Jean Day.  The last Friday of each month is a Mission Jean Day where students can wear jeans, tennis shoes and OLR spirit wear (or other theme if announced) if they bring in at least $1 for the Mission.  Missions are selected each month by a different grade. September’s Mission is JDRF. Mrs. Flynn has sent home information for all families.  We hope to raise more than the $2,500 that was donated last year!

The hot lunch program begins Monday, October 1st.  Also on October 1st, students will begin taking the IOWA Testing for grades 1st-8th.  Please make sure that your child gets a good night sleep, breakfast, and arrives to school on time since testing is usually in the morning.

Kaiser School pictures will be Monday, October 15th, and will begin at 8:00 am in the Mitchell Family Gym lobby.

Lastly, please pay close attention when picking up students at the end of the day.  We will send out a reminder of how the traffic flows so we can ensure the safety of all our students.  Thank you for helping us keep everyone safe!
