OLR is So Proud of Our 2014 Graduate, Clare Brinkman!

Clare BrinkmanOLR is so proud of our 2014 graduate, Clare Brinkman.  Clare recently received a full appointment to the United States Coast Guard Academy – Class of 2022!  She was attracted to the Coast Guard because of its humanitarian mission, and that doesn’t surprise the staff here at Refuge that know her.  Clare is a perfect reflection of what we hope OLR graduates to become.  Clare has worked extremely hard to reach this goal!

She presently attends Saint Catherine of Siena Academy and is a member of the National Honor Society.  While attending Saint Catherine, Clare has been a varsity letter holder on the cross country team since freshman year.  She has been a state qualifier all four years, as well as receiving accolades such as MVP Award (2017), Coach’s Award (2016), All Catholic (2016),  Individual Academic All-State (2016) and School Record Holder in the 5K!  She has also been swimming competitively since 2006, and is a Michigan Swimming Junior Olympic and State Qualifier.  And it doesn’t stop there!  Clare is the Senior Class President and the Cross Country Team Captain.  She also finds time to work as a lifeguard throughout the year, along with volunteering during the annual EPOCH Week at SCA.  Clare really is an amazing young lady!

She will make her way to the US Coast Guard Academy on July 2, 2018 for seven weeks of basic training, immediately followed by the start of the academic year in August.  Clare’s area of study will be Naval Architecture and Marine Engineering.  We would like to extend our best wishes to Clare Brinkman as she embarks on this well-deserved, incredible chapter in her life!  Congratulations and God Bless!!
